Accessories

Of all the possible photographic gadgets you can buy, only a few are really usefull. Let's look at some of them.

Necessary

UV Filter: To protect the front of your lens.
Lenshood: to prevent the sun from causing ugly artifacts on your images by bouncing around inside your lens.
Frontlens caps: to protect your lenses from dust and scratches inside your camera bag.
Backlens caps: to protect the backs of your lenses inside your camera bag.
Tripod: More information on tripods here.

Useful

A polariser filter:
To intensify coulours and skies in your landscape photographs, and to eliminate reflections in windows and on water.
A neutral greycard 18%: To get natural colours under different lightsources, or to spot measure lin difficult lighting conditions.
A 1,4 converter: to multiply the focal length of your telelens, for wildlife and distant subjects.

Camera bag

A sturdy camera bag protects your valuable photo equipment from shocks, dust,  and rain. But keep it simple. A big flashy camera bag is a sure target for thieves. (Criminality in rural Auvergne is next to zero, but better be safe than sorry.) While traveling, always keep your camera, films, and memory cards with you as personal luggage.  Airport personnel handles bags and suitcases very rudely.

studio flashFlash

Phot-O-Vergne teaches you to use available light, even in interiors. So, most of the time  a flash isn't necessary. But bring a flash for the "Laws of Lighting" photo workshop, to trigger the studio flashes.
